Air
Domestic airlines offer regular flights to Pattimura Airport, Ambon Island and Sultan Babullah Airport (Ternate Airport north Maluku)) from Jakarta and Surabaya in Java. Most flights are not direct and may include a stop-over in Makassar, Sulawesi. There are no direct services from Denpasar in Bali. Flights from Bali are via Surabaya or Jakarta. Several airlines also operate services from Makassar in Sulawesi and Sorong and Kaimana, West Papua. Prices and schedules change frequently but you can view these and book your flight at tiket.com. The Pattimura airport is located in Laha Village a short drive from the city of Ambon. Regular bus services are available.
Sea
Pelni (Indonesia’s national shipping company) operates regular passenger services between Bali, Java and Ambon as well as the northern city of Ternate. If you are in Sulawesi services are also provided from Makassar and Bau Bau. With sea journeys taking between 2 and 8 days, travelling by ferry is really only suitable for those with plenty of time.
