Judging by the crowds whenever we’ve visited, Tegunungan Waterfall is probably the most popular waterfall in Bali. But don’t let the crowds put you off – this impressive waterfall is well worth visiting.
The heavy waterflow plunges a dramatic 50m from the Petanu River with a thundering roar. Being one of Bali’s few waterfalls not located in the cool highlands, the large deep plunge pool is a great place for a refreshing swim and is popular with both tourists and locals.
Located in Tegenungan village just 5km southeast of Ubud, Tegunungan is well known and well signposted so you won’t have any trouble finding it. From the car park, there’s an 800m walk through very pretty jungle alive with birds. It’s a formed trail with hundreds of steps that lead down into the steep sided river valley. After a swim and making the laborious climb back out of the valley, refresh yourself from the multitude of warungs and vendors selling food, cold drinks, ice creams and souvenirs.
