Noticeably devoid of tourists, Flores has been likened to Bali forty years ago but the comparison ends there. Perched on the western tip of Flores overlooking a pretty harbour and the Komodo Islands, Labuan Bajo is the main transit point for travellers. As such, it is about the only place in Flores with better than basic accommodation, a handful of surprisingly good restaurants and dive shops. Yet it retains the sleepy, dusty street charm of a frontier town.
